KopSun is happy to report that the City of Carpinteria adopted its comprehensive personal use and commercial cannabis regulations ordinance last night.

Carpinteria is KopSun’s home and land of the World’s Safest Cannabis. To be clear, the cannabis is grown outside of city limits in the unincorporated part of the Carpinteria Valley.

Back to the City Council meeting …

Is Ordinance No. 726 everything we want in a cannabis rules and regs document? Not by a long shot! It is, however, a collection of baby steps in the right direction.

First and foremost, it is the beginning of the end of demonizing cannabis. There are snags such as the ordinance won’t allow up to six plants to be cultivated in the outdoors of a residence for personal use (like one’s backyard) for fear of odor issues. Emphasis on for fear.

In keeping with KopSun’s mission of education, Tina and Amy spoke in front of the council advocating for reason and facts (not to mention state law) to move Carpinteria from its cannabis moratorium. A few other speakers were supporters, but the majority of speakers were distractors. That’s OK. It’s good in fact. Education by osmosis is A-OK in our book.

We look forward to sharing the news of commercial cannabis opening for business in Carpinteria. It’ll be more than a few months, with all the rules, regs, licensing, fees, and who knows what else, so don’t hold your breath. We’ll keep you posted.

If there’s an aspect of cannabis you’d like to know more about, tell us in the comments section. Thanks, and we’ll be talking soon.
